Karina is a registered psychologist who works part time at ACPC Psychology.
Karina is a warm and dedicated registered Psychologist with a passion to helping children and their families with a variety of difficulties. Karina uses an open and empathic approach to engage children and bond in a safe and reliable therapeutic space.
Karina’s approach encourages the inclusion of parents; working in collaboration and holistically to achieve progress building on strengths and resilience. She is culturally competent, having worked with various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds including Spanish speaking families. Karina ensures that assessments and interventions are matched to the circumstances and specifically tailored to meet individual needs. She also welcomes individual therapy with adolescents and adults.
Karina has extensive experience in the treatment of a variety of presentations such as anxiety, social and emotional concerns, social skills training, difficult and challenging behaviour, anger, emotional regulation issues, depression, trauma, and parent separation issues. Karina’s interventions are informed by Schema Therapy, Circle of Security and Attachment Theory. She uses a range of therapeutic approaches including (but not limited to) Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Psychodynamic, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness and Child Centre Play Therapy.
Karina has completed a Bachelor in Psychology at the University of Belgrano, Argentina (gained approval by the Australian Psychological Society). She has also completed a Master in Family Studies with a specialisation in Family Intensive Practice at the University of Newcastle and attends ongoing professional development.
She is a nationally registered psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), and is a member of the Australian Psychology Society (APS). She is a registered service provider under the Australian Government's Better Outcomes for Mental Health Care Program. The clinic also provides services under the Psychological Support Services (PSS) and many clients accessing National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Program.
Karina works at both the Illawong and Westmead clinics and has limited appointments after school hours.
