Encouraging Your Daughters to Develop a Positive Body Image

Fathers can play an important role in promoting a positive body image in their children believes Dr Richard Fletcher, Senior Lecturer at University of Newcastle and author of The Dad Factor.

"Dads can help their daughters develop a positive body image by playing the same kinds of rough-and-tumble games they usually reserve for their sons," he says. In his research, Fletcher found that girls were more enthusiastic than boys when it came to playing games where they had to try and beat the opponent (their dad) by somehow holding him down or pushing him off.

According to Fletcher, two crucial messages are being absorbed by the daughter when dad is playing these games with her......
